PANJSHIR — A tragic traffic incident in the Astana area of Panjshir province’s central district has left two members of the Taliban’s special brigade dead. The fatal crash occurred on Sunday when a military Ranger vehicle, traveling toward a series of Taliban checkpoints, veered off course and overturned.
According to local sources, the deceased fighters were originally residents of Helmand province stationed within the local special unit in Panjshir. While official authorities have remained tight-lipped and declined to issue any formal explanation regarding the cause of the rollover, local residents have increasingly pointed to recurring issues of driver negligence, high speeds, and poor road discipline among Taliban forces navigating the rugged terrain of Panjshir.
The incident underscores a growing pattern of non-combat casualties within the ranks, driven by reckless handling of military vehicles. As local communities continue to witness such preventable road accidents, the lack of accountability or safety protocols from the administration highlights ongoing internal challenges within regional military outposts.
