Dawood Naji, head of the political committee of the Afghanistan Freedom Front, says Taliban forces have targeted positions belonging to the group in Zebak district of Badakhshan province with heavy weapons.
Naji said the attacks began on Wednesday morning and that Taliban forces have targeted the Freedom Front’s positions on several occasions.
According to Naji, the attacks have been met with retaliatory fire from the Freedom Front’s commando forces.
He did not provide details about possible casualties or damage caused by the clashes.
The claims come amid continued tensions between Taliban forces and armed opposition groups in parts of northern Afghanistan.
There has been no independent confirmation of the reported exchanges of fire or the claims regarding the scale of the attacks.
