The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense has announced the conclusion of military operations in Kamdesh district of Nuristan province following several days of clashes with opposition forces.
In a statement, the ministry claimed that 41 members of what it described as “evil, corruption and Daesh” forces were killed and 62 others were wounded during the operations.
The Taliban also alleged that opposition forces involved in the fighting had received military support from Pakistan. Islamabad has denied the allegation.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) said its forces had been engaged in fighting with Taliban forces in Kamdesh since Saturday, October 4.
The AFF claimed that Taliban forces suffered heavy casualties during the clashes and were forced to retreat from some positions.
The two sides have presented conflicting accounts of the fighting, including different claims about casualties and the outcome of the clashes.
There has been no independent verification of the casualty figures or either side’s claims regarding territorial control and the course of the fighting.
The latest clashes highlight continuing armed confrontations between Taliban forces and anti-Taliban groups in parts of Afghanistan, despite the Taliban’s assertion that it has established nationwide security since returning to power in 2021.
