NAGOYA, Japan — In regional sports highlights, Afghan judoka Hikmatullah Rahmani delivered a strong performance at the 20th Asian Games currently underway in Japan, securing a notable victory against his Cambodian competitor in the 66-kilogram weight category.

Representing the country alongside fellow national squad members, Rahmani’s win on the opening day of the judo events brought a welcome moment of athletic success on the international stage. The 20th Asian Games, hosted across Aichi and Nagoya, feature athletes from 45 nations competing across dozens of sporting disciplines.

According to the Afghanistan Judo Federation, Rahmani’s performance on the mat highlights the resilience and individual dedication of athletes striving to make their mark despite profound administrative and infrastructural hurdles back home.

The continental multi-sport event, which runs through early October, continues to see regional competitors test their mettle in high-stakes international arenas, with Afghan participants drawing attention across various combat and individual sports categories.
