KABUL: Taliban intelligence officials in Afghanistan’s Panjshir province have arrested two local police officers, according to sources familiar with the development.
The two individuals, identified by sources as Dr. Fayez and Mutiuallah, were arrested on Tuesday, September 21, from the provincial centre, according to local sources.
Sources said both men had previously served in the security forces of the former Afghan government and had continued working with the Panjshir security command after the Taliban returned to power.
The reasons for their arrests have not been officially disclosed. It also remains unclear where the two men are currently being held or whether charges have been brought against them.
Panjshir has remained under close security scrutiny by the Taliban since the group took control of Afghanistan in 2021. The province has also been a centre of resistance activity against the Taliban, particularly involving the National Resistance Front (NRF).
Former security personnel in Afghanistan have previously faced arrests and investigations by Taliban authorities, although the circumstances and cases have varied across provinces.
There has been no immediate public statement from Taliban officials in Panjshir confirming the arrests or providing details about the allegations against the two men.
Further information about their status and the reasons behind the arrests may emerge as local authorities respond to the reports.
