Former Pakistani ambassador Asif Durrani has said that there is currently no visible possibility of a regime change in Afghanistan, although the situation in the country remains unpredictable.
Speaking about developments in Afghanistan, Durrani said that while no immediate signs of regime change are apparent, “anything can happen in Afghanistan at any time.” His remarks highlight the uncertainty surrounding the country’s political and security situation.
Durrani also said that Pakistan is not showing flexibility regarding the restoration of relations. His comments come amid continued tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and limited progress toward improving bilateral ties.
Relations between the two neighboring countries have faced significant challenges in recent years, particularly over security concerns, border issues and allegations surrounding militant activity. Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns about militant groups operating from Afghan territory, while Afghanistan has rejected allegations that it allows its territory to be used against neighboring countries.
The former ambassador’s remarks suggest that Islamabad currently sees little reason to change its position, while the political situation inside Afghanistan remains difficult to predict.
Despite the absence of any clear indication of an imminent political transition, Durrani’s warning that circumstances could change at any time reflects the volatile nature of Afghanistan’s political landscape.
