An earthquake measuring 4.4 in magnitude struck parts of Afghanistan early Wednesday morning, with tremors reported in the vicinity of Farkhar District in Takhar Province.

According to information attributed to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred around 33 kilometers from Farkhar District. The quake was recorded at a considerable depth of approximately 212.6 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface.

Deep earthquakes generally produce less intense surface shaking than shallow earthquakes of similar magnitude, although their effects can vary depending on geological conditions and distance from populated areas.

So far, no reports of casualties, injuries or significant property damage have been released in connection with the earthquake. Authorities and local residents are expected to continue monitoring the situation for any possible aftershocks or delayed reports of damage.

Afghanistan remains one of the earthquake-prone countries in the region, particularly because of its location near the complex tectonic boundaries associated with the Hindu Kush. The country has experienced several significant earthquakes in recent years, causing casualties and extensive damage in different provinces.

The latest tremor adds to the series of seismic events recorded across Afghanistan this year. Officials have not indicated any immediate emergency situation resulting from Wednesday’s earthquake.
