Mullah Rahmatullah Najib, the newly appointed Taliban governor of Badakhshan, reportedly held a lengthy meeting with Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada in Kandahar before travelling to the northeastern province.

Sources in Kandahar told Afghanistan International that the meeting took place on Friday and focused on Najib’s responsibilities and the Taliban leadership’s expectations for his administration in Badakhshan.

Instructions on Managing Badakhshan

According to the sources, Akhundzada gave Najib specific instructions regarding his mission and how he should manage the province.

The security situation in Badakhshan was reportedly among the main issues discussed during the meeting. Recent developments in the province and approaches to handling sensitive local matters were also highlighted.
