KABUL — Afghanistan has kept its airspace open to Iranian carriers, enabling Mahan Air and Iran Airtour to maintain direct, scheduled flights between Tehran and Kabul despite tightening international pressure.
According to aviation sources and active flight schedules, commercial services continue to operate regularly between Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport and Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport. The continuity persists even as Washington and Western allies apply intense economic and regulatory pressure to isolate Iranian commercial carriers worldwide.
US authorities and Western partners have previously imposed stringent sanctions on Iranian airlines under allegations of supporting regional security vulnerabilities and military logistics. Despite these measures, Kabul’s de facto administration continues to facilitate the air corridor, maintaining active economic and diplomatic links with Tehran.
Defense and political analysts note that the persistence of these regional routes in the face of international sanctions highlights shifting geopolitical alignments across South and West Asia. Observers suggest that Washington and other Western capitals are likely to monitor the corridor closely, with potential for increased diplomatic and economic pressure on both administrations.
