The Taliban security command in Kandahar has confirmed the arrest of two armed members accused of beating and abusing a number of children in Spin Boldak district.
In a statement issued Tuesday, October 7, the security command said the two individuals had been arrested and referred to the relevant court for legal proceedings.
A local source said the two Taliban members detained at least 12 children on Monday along the Spin Boldak-Chaman route and subjected them to severe beatings and abuse.
The circumstances that led to the children being detained remain unclear. The ages and identities of the children have not been disclosed.
The Taliban security command did not provide detailed information about the alleged incident or specify what charges had been brought against the two suspects. It also did not disclose the outcome of any judicial proceedings.
The case comes amid wider concerns over the treatment of civilians and children in areas under Taliban control. The Taliban authorities have previously announced disciplinary and legal action against members accused of violating laws or abusing civilians.
Further details about the case, including the condition of the children and the court proceedings against the two suspects, were not immediately available.
