An explosion targeting Taliban forces in Salang district of Afghanistan’s Parwan province left several Taliban members and one civilian dead, according to local sources.

The incident took place at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, when fresh Taliban forces were reportedly moving toward a checkpoint in Dah Yak village in Salang district.

Sources in Parwan said the Taliban personnel were targeted in an explosion while they were approaching the checkpoint. Several Taliban members were killed in the blast, along with one civilian, according to the sources.

The circumstances surrounding the explosion, including the type of explosive device used and who was responsible, remain unclear. No group has been identified as being behind the incident.

Security incidents involving explosions and attacks continue to raise concerns in several parts of Afghanistan, despite the Taliban authorities maintaining control over most of the country.

Further details about the number of casualties and the nature of the attack were not immediately available. Local authorities have also not provided a detailed public account of the incident.

The incident comes amid continued security concerns in Afghanistan, where sporadic attacks and explosions have been reported despite a broader decline in large-scale fighting since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021.
